Oktober 2007: new HD-plasma cutting machine HPR 260 by Messer Griesheim is put into operation

In October, AWS put a new high-definition plasma cutting machine into operation. We chose the HPR 260 by Messer Griesheim with two torches and a Hypertherm plasma source.
This machine cuts carbon steel up to a thickness of approx 40 mm depending on the type of steel. With straight, square edges and tight tolerances.
The machine is placed on a cutting bed of 5.50 x 40 metres, which guarantees an efficient supply and flow of plates and cutting parts.

AWS’s cutting-machine park consists of six autogenous cutting machines and three plasma cutting machines, one of which is an underwater plasma cutting machine.

November 2007: Introduction of "digital picking" and unloading and evening shifts in the warehouse are operational

After years of preparation and investments in information technology, the step towards 'digital picking' was made in the warehouse at the end of this autumn.
All plates in our stock are now digitally 'picked' by infrared terminals. This has considerably improved the planning, allocation of cranes, capacity and response time in the warehouse. All of the plates at AWS are 100% individually traceable and all crane movement data are automatically registered.
This important innovation and the introduction of an evening shift in the warehouse, has considerably reduced our delivery time for plates, which is now market conform.

Januari 2008: Start construction of a new storgae and processing hall of 2000 m2

In September 2004 we opened our new business premises in Oosterhout, which has a floor space of 20,000 m².
We’ve been so successfully, that we found ourselves lacking space far sooner than we expected.
This is why the construction of a new storage and processing hall with a surface of 2,000 m² will commence in January 2008.
The additional space in the new hall will enable us to further improve the logistics in our flame-cutting department and expand the stock of quarto plates to 30,000 tons. This gives the knife a double edge.
The hall will be opened in January 2009.
